A Guide to Zwift Jersey Colors

In Zwift, jersey colors represent the leaders of specific segments during your current riding session. If you see someone wearing a bright green, polka-dot, or orange jersey, it means they currently hold the fastest time for a sprint, a climb, or a full lap on the leaderboard you are currently looking at.

Think of these as "temporary trophies" that you get to wear as long as your time stays at the top of the list for that specific session. Here is the breakdown of what each color means for your ride:

The Leaderboard Jerseys

  • Green Jersey (The Sprinter): You earn this by having the fastest time on a designated sprint segment. If you're pushing 500W+ to win a 20-second dash, this is the one you’re hunting.
  • Polka-Dot Jersey (The Climber): This goes to the King or Queen of the Mountain (KOM/QOM). You get this by setting the fastest time on the major climbs, like the Epic KOM or the Alpe du Zwift.
  • Orange Jersey (The Lap Leader): This is awarded to the rider with the fastest overall lap time on the specific circuit you are currently riding.
  • Yellow Jersey (The Overall Leader): On some courses, the rider who holds the lead across multiple categories or the fastest overall time for a specific loop wears the yellow jersey.

Why you might see "Combined" Jerseys

If you are having an incredible day and happen to lead both the sprint and the climb, Zwift won't make you choose. Your avatar will wear a "combined" jersey that features patterns from both (like a jersey that is half green and half polka-dot).

How to get one yourself

To win a jersey, you don't need to beat the world record; you just need to beat the people currently active on that map.

Try this: next time you're riding, look at the leaderboard on the left side of your screen. Click the icons at the top to toggle between the Sprint, KOM, and Lap times. If the top time is 30 seconds and you think you can do 29, give it a go!

Why this matters for YOUR training

Chasing jerseys is a fantastic way to sneak some high-intensity intervals into a "boring" ride. If your training plan calls for VO2max work (those short, 3-5 minute hard efforts), timing your effort to coincide with a KOM segment makes the pain much more engaging.

Just remember: these jerseys are temporary. Once you log off or someone else goes faster, the jersey goes back into the virtual locker.

Quick Summary:

  • Green = Sprint Leader
  • Polka-Dot = Climb Leader
  • Orange/Yellow = Lap or Overall Leader
  • How to win: Set the fastest time on the segment during your current session.
  • Pro tip: Use them as motivation for your high-intensity interval days!
